Academic Staff Member – Head of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology
Research field: forestry, forestry technology, forest harvesting, ergonomics, bioenergetics, timber construction, arboriculture, tropical forestry
We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.
The department deals with the problems of engineering and technology in all main sectors in forest management, especially in forest regeneration, forest logging and timber transport, now also in the tropics and subtropics. Other areas of departmental activities cover e.g. energy efficiency of machinery and construction, including thermography and calculation of energy parameters of buildings. The department also pays attention to ergonomics and safety at work. The most recent thematic area within the department is that of arboriculture.

What will be your job role?
- managing, controlling and evaluating the work of employees
- personnel development and staffing of the fields of study provided at the department
- supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the department
- submitting and securing projects for the development of the department
- organising the department’s activities
- ensuring the protection of the employer’s assets and the economic use of funds (management of the department’s budget and resources)
- development of international cooperation, involvement of the department in international activities, for example within IUFRO and EFI
- creating favourable working conditions, including support for the professional development of employees
- ensuring high quality teaching and mentoring of students
- ensuring health and safety at work
- compliance with legal regulations in the managed workplace
- pedagogical and scientific research activities in the field
- cooperation with other departments of the faculty
What are our requirements?
- Master’s degree in forestry, wood science or technical field, Ph.D. (or equivalent), associate professor or professor degree is an advantage
- demonstrable experience of publishing in scientific and technical journals
- previous experience in managing academic or project teams
- experience with international EU and national projects at the level of GAČR, NAZV, TAČR
- experience in research projects in forestry, arboriculture or tropical forestry
- advanced knowledge of Czech and English for teaching and publishing
- ability to transfer knowledge and experience from both Czech and foreign practice
- ability to understand labour law and the economic rules of HEI management
- organisational, management and communication skills
- aptitude for team and independent work
- willingness to work on further personal development and qualification growth
- a proactive approach to developing international cooperation
- implementation of a clear vision for the development of the department and its staff renewal
- involvement of the workplace in international networks
- introduction of new approaches and methods in the teaching of subjects at the department, linking research with pedagogy
What research experience do we require?
- demonstrable research experience in forestry, arboriculture, tropical forestry
