The Dean of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava announces a selection procedure, reference number: OU-759/25-2025, to fill an academic position of:

Assistant professor / Associate professor of French Literature

Expected starting date:

·         by agreement, or on 1st September, 2025 at the latest.

Working hours:

·         full-time: 100 %.

Language in which the selection procedure will be conducted:

·         English / French.

Salary:

·         according to the Internal Regulations of the University of Ostrava.

Job description:

·         provides teaching in bachelor’s, master’s / doctoral study programmes (including supervising and opposing theses) and participates in the development of the study programmes;

·         participates in creative activities – especially in independently managing complex research and development tasks, active publishing in peer-reviewed journals and other forms of publication outputs, supervising/leading/coordinating research projects, including securing sources of financing, participating in scientific conferences and professional meetings, and presenting results of creative activities;

·         supports the third role of the university – especially in the form of popularizing creative activity;

·         participates in the administration associated with the performed activity and in the self-government of the university;

·         participates in the doctoral study programmes (in case of position of Associate professor).

Requirements:

·         Master’s degree in Teaching of the French language, French Philology or a related field;

·         completed doctoral studies (Ph.D.) or equivalent in the field of Romance Literature / Literary Theory / Literary Comparative Studies / Literary Science or in a related field; in case of ongoing doctoral studies, the condition is its completion (including passing the state doctoral examination) by 31st August, 2025;

·         in case of position of Associate professor: appointment as Associate professor in the field of History of Specific Literatures (Romanesque Literature) / Romanesque Literature / Literary Science or in a related field (appointments outside the Czech Republic must be recognized according to the valid regulations of the Czech Republic or related international agreements);

·         active scientific and publication activity in the field of Romance Literature / Literary Science or Literary Comparative Studies in accordance with the scientific focus of the Department of Romance Studies (in the last 5 years);

·         EU research level: Assistant professor: R2 – Recognized;

·         EU research level: Associate professor: R3 – Established/R4 – Leading (research group);

·         prerequisites for pedagogical and research activities;

·         willingness to participate in the qualification growth of the Department;

·         knowledge of the English language at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;

·         independent, responsible and proactive approach to work;

·         civil and moral integrity.
