Academic Staff Member – Assistant Professor for the Department of Informatics

Research field: field of industrial automation (industrial, stationary, and collaborative robotics, computer vision and image spectroscopy, optimization of manufacturing processes, predictive maintenance, adaptive manufacturing, digital twins), field of artificial intelligence (intelligent agents, multi-agent systems, machine learning and data mining, natural language processing and language models).

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

The Department of Informatics primarily provides teaching of informatics study programmes at the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno. It also partly teaches specialised IT courses for economic study programmes. Courses are taught in both Czech and English. Apart from teaching, he focuses on research and development in the areas of mobile applications, web technologies and Industry 4.0. It emphasizes the use of methods from the field of artificial intelligence, analysis of large-scale data and innovative methods of communication with the user.

What will be your job role?

  • teaching courses primarily for students in informatics study programs, mainly in the Open Informatics program – primarily courses focused on industrial automation and embedded systems programming using NI technologies, robotics, computer vision, Python programming language, and subjects in the field of artificial intelligence (not necessarily in all of these areas)
  • conducting lectures and exercises in Czech and English language
  • supervising students‘ final theses in the above-mentioned areas
  • working on research and development projects in the employee’s profile areas
  • publishing research and development results at conferences and in scientific journals

What are our requirements?

  • a university degree at Ph.D. level in the field of IT or related
  • active knowledge of Czech language at the level C1
  • active knowledge of English language at the level B2
  • ability to lead lectures and exercises at the university level in both languages
  • ability to professionally supervise students‘ final theses, primarily in the Open Informatics study program, specializing in Embedded Systems Programming and related fields
  • research/teaching/practical knowledge in the selected areas: automation using NI technologies, robotics, computer vision, artificial intelligence, and possible integrations – with at least one year of demonstrable experience in the mentioned areas (teaching, projects, practical experience, etc.)

Required research experience:

  • experience with project work in one of the required areas (participation in projects, active problem solver, project leader)
  • ability to present work results at conferences (participation in at least two conferences)
  • ability to publish work results in professional journals (at least two publications in journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science)

Job status: 0,5 (20 hours per week)

Expected start: September 2024

Employment contract: fixed term for two years with the possibility of extension
