The dean of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, invites applications for job vacancy with a deadline for applications May 31, 2025
Job description: Teaching at the B.A. and M.A. program of Middle Eastern Studies. Supervision of B.A. theses. Original research and its publication on the international level. Participation at foreign conference events. Participation in grant projects of the department and participation at writing new grant applications.

If the career development plan is required, it must aim to commence the habilitation procedure (procedure for the granting of associate professorship) no later than nine years after the expected beginning of employment.
Based on the committee’s decision, either all applicants or selected applicants only will be invited to the second round of the competition, i.e. an interview.

Qualifications
- M.A. degree from a program focusing at the Middle East and Northern Africa. Perspective of receiving a Ph.D. in the same area within one year from starting the job. Active knowledge of Arabic (knowledge of also a dialectal form of that language is an advantage). Expertise in modern and contemporary Middle Eastern cultural history with a focus on literature. Experience with publishing on international level (corresponding to the early career stage). Experience with presenting his/her research on international level. Cooperation with the media sphere in support of the third role of the university. Ability to teach in Czech and English and at least three years of teaching experience at university level in the same research area. Experience in cooperation with foreign research institutions.
