Academic Staff Member – Assistant or Assistant Professor for the Department of Food Technology
Research field: New and modern trends in food technology with a focus on raw material processing, production of food of plant origin and especially brewing and malting. Focus on the development of high added value foods – functional foods.
We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.
We are looking for a colleague to expand our team of academics engaged in applied research, practical teaching, to work with companies in the development of food applied outputs with prospective economic impact on society or non-economic impact. The Department of Food Technology has a semi-operational laboratory, including a microbrewery and a number of staff who are proficient in both food processing technologies and analytical methods necessary for the food industry. At the same time, we keep abreast of trends in the development of new processes and products. This is the basis that allows us to combine the attributes of an academic and a specialist close to commercialisation and practical production.

What will be your job role?
- teaching subjects thematically focused on the processing of crop products, brewing and malting and plant and microbial biotechnology
- evaluation and processing of plant products with a malting and brewing focus
- supervision of bachelor /diploma theses
- preparation of research and documents for scientific outputs
- participation in the preparation of project applications
- active cooperation in scientific research projects, experimental activities
- cooperation with practice (enterprises in the food and agricultural sector), or institutions sponsoring projects for practice
- promotion of the activities of the faculty and the department at conferences
What are our requirements?
- completed master’s degree in food technology and completed (or with the prospect of completing) doctoral studies in the field of quality assessment of plant products and their subsequent processing, including beer production technology
- excellent knowledge of the Czech language, ability to teach and publish in English
- very good communication skills and an interest in effectively transferring acquired knowledge and skills to students
- ability to lecture, lead seminars and practical exercises for students, ability to engage the audience
- experience in teaching subjects involving issues in the research area
- a positive and proactive approach, the ability to come up with new ideas and innovate on existing solutions
- practical knowledge of malting and brewing technologies, ability to operate technological semi-operational equipment such as malt house, brewery, biofermenter, yeast production tank (propagation station), sand sparging filter, sanitation line for kegs, CIP station, laboratory facilities for beer, wort and malt analysis and gas management (CO2, nitrogen, compressed air)
- experience in the implementation of research projects of national providers or internal student projects
- PC skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Statistica)
- orientation in the university environment
