Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position:

Assistant Professor in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity

Working Hours: full-time (40 hours per week – possibly with less in the initial period and then gradually increasing)

Expected start: September 2025 or by mutual agreement

Employment: 3-year initial contract (with a possible extension – tenure track)

Job description key points:

The position is focused on both teaching and research. The candidates are expected to carry out research of excellent quality in areas close to computer networks and/or cybersecurity. They should be provably capable of successfully applying for research grant projects. The candidates should be able to prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials in courses from both computer networks and cybersecurity at the bachelor as well as master level within the study programs of the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University (FI MU): https://www.fi.muni.cz/catalogue-current/?all=1&lang=en. They should be willing and capable of taking full responsibility of some of such courses. The candidates should also show a large amount of flexibility in teaching subjects that are not directly related to their particular areas of research. The candidates should be ready to supervise undergraduate as well as graduate students too. Finally, the candidates should be willing and have the potential to advance to an associate professor level in a not too far future.

 

The successful candidate must have:

  • PhD in computer science;
  • existing track record in research;
  • experience in teaching and in attracting grant projects;
  • passion for problem-solving and desire to work with students;
  • dynamic, flexible personality, ability to work well in teams;
  • fluency in English (both spoken and written); other language(s) are welcome;
  • experience from other countries than the Czech and Slovak Republics (at least one year).

Desired skills and achievements:

  • PhD thesis and/or subsequent research in computer networks or cybersecurity;
  • at least some publications with co-authors from outside of the Czech and Slovak Republics;
  • ability to work well in interdisciplinary teams.

Applicants should submit:

  • CV, including a summary of work experience, publication activity, teaching, involvement in research grants, etc.;
  • copy of diploma from the highest level of education (notarial certification not required);
  • cover letter explaining the candidate’s motivation and interest in obtaining the position;
  • a brief proposal of how the current courses concerning computer networks or cybersecurity at the FI MU could possibly be improved and/or what course(s) from these areas could be newly introduced;
  • title and abstract of a lecture to be presented as a part of the application process;
  • the names and contact details of three professional referees;
  • a criminal record and the report of any other employment in the Czech Republic according to the Higher Education Act (will be required only in case of successful completion of the interview).
