Assistant Professor or Assistan

at the Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science

 

Workplace: Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science

Employment Type: Fixed-term contract (substitution for maternity and parental leave)

Workload: Preferably full-time (40 hours/week), possibility of two part-time contracts (20 hours/week)

Number of Positions Available: 1 full-time (40 hours/week) or 2 part-time (20 hours/week)

Start Date: September 1, 2025

The Department of Constitutional Law and Political Science provides teaching in constitutional law, human rights, political science, state studies, and a range of elective and skills subjects; its members also contribute to independent and team scientific research.

Job Description:

  • Conducting seminars in constitutional law and participating in teaching similar subjects offered by the Department.
  • Teaching constitutional law and at least one other compulsory subject within the Department, with a teaching load of approximately 8-12 hours per week during semesters (February-May, September-December).
  • Supervising qualification theses (around 8 master’s theses per year for full-time employment) and mentoring doctoral students (pre-habilitation phase: max. 1 PhD student).
  • Participating in examination during the examination period (January-February, May-June, September).
  • Preparing study and teaching materials.
  • Contributing to related administrative tasks.
  • Engaging in the « third role » of the university, such as socially beneficial activities (University of the Third Age, Street Law, public lectures, etc.).
  • Publishing research domestically and internationally and seeking grant funding.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Law.
  • Ph.D. degree (or advanced stage of doctoral studies for lecturer position).
  • Interest in constitutional law, human rights, state studies, and/or political science.
  • Positive attitute towards teaching and a student-friendly approach.
  • Independence and enthusiasm for academic (scientific-research) work.
  • Disclosure of any additional employment relationships in accordance with §70 of Act No. 111/1998 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions.
  • Ability to teach and publish in the Czech language.
  • Active knowledge of English (additional language skills are an advantage).
  • Open-mindedness, approachability, empathy, reliability, and a team-oriented spirit.
  • Publications in international journals indexed in Web of Science or Scopus (Q1 or Q2) are an advantage.
  • Initiative in field development and in departmental activities.
  • Experience in an international academic environment.
  • Teaching experience or other relevant academic/legal practice.
  • Extensive publication activity is an advantage.
  • Experience with grant application processes within Czech (e.g., GAČR) and/or international frameworks (e.g., Marie Curie, ERC, Horizon) is an advantage.
  • Interest in international collaboration (grants, conferences, projects).
