Academic Staff Member for the Department of Forest Management and Applied Geoinformatics, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.
The Department of Forest Management and Applied Geoinformatics provides teaching of the guaranteed subjects of Bachelor, Master and Doctoral studies and development of knowledge of the guaranteed disciplines through research activities in cooperation with practice. Core subjects include Forest Management, Dendrometry, Statistics, Forest Growth Science, Geodesy and Land Registration, Geoinformation Systems, Remote Sensing, GIS Analysis and Decision Support, Forest Thematic Cartography and others. The importance of the Department’s activities is mainly in the field of data analysis and processing in terms of natural and human-influenced risks and subsequent management of forest stands in the landscape. Practical exercises are conducted in specialised classrooms and in the field.
What will be your job role?
- teaching in accredited study programmes in both Czech and English
- conducting lectures and exercises, and possibly also field trips and field exercises
- assessing students in written and/or oral exercises and examinations
- reviewing students’ final theses and providing expertise in the field of science
- solving scientific and research tasks in the field of science
- publication of research results in scientific journals, conferences and seminars
What are our requirements?
- a master’s degree in forestry, landscape or natural sciences, or a doctorate in progress or completed
- excellent knowledge of the Czech language (C1) and active knowledge of English (B1)
- theoretical and practical knowledge of statistics, dendrometry, biometry and forest management
- ability to teach independently both in the classroom and in the field
- ability to supervise students’ bachelor and master theses
- ability to publish scientific publications and work with scientific documents (independently and in teams)
- active knowledge of at least one data analysis software (e.g. R, Matlab, Statistica, etc.)
- advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 products
Required research experience:
- experience in preparing and solving scientific projects for national or international grant agencies
- experience of working in project teams (potentially international)

Job status: 1,0 (40 hours per week)
Expected start: January 2025
Employment contract: fixed term for one year with the possibility of extension
