Faculty of Science MU, a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award by the European Commission, is a research-oriented faculty, offering university education (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree programs) closely linked to both primary and applied research and high school teaching of the following sciences: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth sciences. We are the most productive scientific unit of the Masaryk University generating around 40 % of MU research results.
The Department of Geological Sciences of the Faculty of Science of MU deals with a wide range of geological, geochemical, hydrogeological, and environmental disciplines. It covers the field of geodynamic evolution of the Earth and the evolution of life from the Paleozoic to the present, the processes of formation of igneous and transformed rocks and their minerals, geochemical evolution of the environment influenced by human activities, hydrogeology, geoarchaeology and landscape evolution in the Quaternary. The Department closely cooperates with the Institute of Earth Physics and the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science of MU.
Job Description
In this role you will have the unique opportunity and responsibility to shape the strategies and direction of the Department´s future development, placing it at the forefront of both scientific research and the training of new professionals. You will be involved in the development and implementation of long-term plans and contribute to the development of the Department of Geological Sciences.
What do we expect from you?
- At least 5 years of proven successful experience in a top management position;
- High level of organizational, presentation, communication and negotiation skills;
- Proactive and systematic approach, ability to innovatie, flexibility, resilience, autonomy, reliability, personal and moral integrity;
- Experience with relevant legislation and law regulations;
- Experience in direct management of people and coordination of large work teams;
- Ability to coordinate work in a systematic way and to solve problems creatively and independently, including risk and impact assessment;
- Professor or Associate Professor (or equivalent) in a relevant field;
- Teaching experience (systematic lecturing, supervision of Masters and PhD students at a Czech or foreign university);
- Excellent publication record (parameters: cumulative impact factor, H-index, citation rate);
- Ability to be proactive and to communicate in both Czech and English.
What you will be responsible for
- Coordinating the teaching of the bachelor, master and doctoral programmes accredited at the Department;
- Scientific coordination of the research directions of the Department;
- Financial sustainability of the Department in relation to national and European Operational Programme projects and related coordination of the preparation of larger framework projects;
- Coordination of the research activities of the Department and the individual research groups;
- Coordination of the project, personnel and economic activities of the Department with the Faculty and other departments of the Faculty;
- Preparing the overall development strategy of the Department;
- Management responsibility for the Department ‘s staff capacity and staff development.
What will increase your chances of success?
- Experience in organisational budgeting, crisis management and coordination of large projects or facilities and asset management;
- Knowledge of the management and funding system of public universities and related legislation;
- Public sector experience, experience of the European Structural Funds agenda, experience of working in an international environment.
