Přehled

The Philosophical faculty of the University of Hradec Králové is seeking highly-motivated and skilled postdoctoral researchers for the consortium project Knowledge in the Age of Mistrust (TRUST), in which our team of researchers cooperates with the Institute of Philosophy and Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The project is funded by the Johannes Amos Comenius Programme (OP JAC).

We are seeking up to three postdocs for the subproject Rationality and Logic for Informational Society, within which our team leads 4 research activities that focus on the following topics:

  • Who or what is rational, and by what standards? Why and how does this matter when it comes to understanding and dealing with conspiracy thinking, fake news, group think, and the like phenomena of the current age?
  • When, why, and to what extent do people trust, transmit and support ideas for which there is no or little objective grounding in relevant evidence? What factors – including social-communicative mechanisms, or epistemic environments – promote or hinder this susceptibility? What kind of empirically informed conceptual and epistemological framework do we need to properly understand, assess and regulate this phenomenon?
  • How can we improve current methods of teaching so-called critical thinking and argumentation skills to better reflect the needs of modern informational societies (e.g. to increase information literacy)?
  • Why is science and its findings resisted by the public? What is the role of conspiracy thinking in this resistance? Could science be better communicated to the public, and if so, how?

Any competitive research proposal addressing these overlapping and cross-disciplinary topics is welcome.
