Overview

The student will become familiar with the procedures for the preparation, characterization, and application of functional nanolayers with so-called antifouling properties during their internship, which can have wide applications in the real world. They will learn methods such as post-modification of polymer layers to anchor bioreceptors to the surface, achieving targeted functional properties of the surface. The functionalization processes will be monitored using optical methods (e.g., surface plasmon resonance – SPR, spectroscopic ellipsometry) or the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique. The student will also gain hands-on experience with the synthesis of polymer layers and polymers in solution. This will provide the student with a comprehensive understanding of modern methods for the preparation and use of functional nanolayers in real-world environments and a unique insight into multidisciplinary research led by an international team.

No prior experience is necessary for the internship; what is key is interest and a desire to learn.
