Academic Staff Member – Head of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology

Research field: forestry, forestry technology, forest harvesting, ergonomics, bioenergetics, timber construction, arboriculture, tropical forestry

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

The department deals with the problems of engineering and technology in all main sectors in forest management, especially in forest regeneration, forest logging and timber transport, now also in the tropics and subtropics. Other areas of departmental activities cover e.g. energy efficiency of machinery and construction, including thermography and calculation of energy parameters of buildings. The department also pays attention to ergonomics and safety at work. The most recent thematic area within the department is that of arboriculture.

What will you do?

  • planning, organisation and supervision of all aspects of the department’s activities
  • managing the department’s budget and resources
  • responsibility for the efficient use of the funds entrusted to it and the proper management of its assets
  • management of the academic and research staff and the department’s staff, and their regular appraisal
  • pedagogical and scientific research activities in the field
  • responsibility for the professional, pedagogical and scientific level of the department, ensuring high quality teaching and student guidance
  • supporting research activities and obtaining grants for the department
  • cooperation with other departments of the faculty

What are our requirements?

  • Master’s degree in forestry, wood science or technical field, Ph.D. (or equivalent), associate professor or professor degree is an advantage
  • demonstrable experience of publishing in scientific and technical journals
  • experience in research projects in forestry, forestry technology, forest harvesting, ergonomics, bioenergetics, wood construction, arboriculture or tropical forestry
  • advanced knowledge of Czech and English for teaching and publishing in both languages
  • ability to understand labour law and the economic rules governing the management of HEIs
  • organisational, managerial and communication skills
  • aptitude for team and independent work
  • willingness to work on further personal development and qualification growth

Job status: 1,0 (40 hours per week)
