JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Aquatic Microbial Ecology (https://www.hbu.cas.cz/en/structure/ame/), Institute of Hydrobiology, Biology Centre CAS (https://www.bc.cas.cz/en/homepage/), invites applications for laboratory assistant position. The new assistant will work in the microbial laboratory, maintain the lab, order supplies and perform basic molecular biology work. In addition to these core responsibilities, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience with advanced long-read sequencing technologies, a highly sought-after skill in modern molecular biology.

REQUIREMENTS:

Min. education level: Bachelor degree
Field of education: Biology

  • Good knowledge of basic molecular biology methods (DNA and RNA isolation, PCR)
  • Experience in working with eukaryotic cultures and/or viruses would be appreciated
  • Experience with MS Excel, Word
  • Candidates must be proficient in English
  • Driving license and knowledge of Czech language would be considered favorably but is not a prerequisite for selection

The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Target starting date is 1st of April 2025. The position is available for 1 year with the possibility of extension.

The Biology Centre is located in České Budějovice (2 hours south of the capital Prague), a middle-sized city with ca. 100K inhabitants, relaxed atmosphere, over 750 years of tradition and a breathtaking countryside around.
