Academic Staff Member – Lecturer for the Department of Informatics

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

The Department of Informatics primarily provides teaching of informatics study programmes at the Faculty of Business and Economics of Mendel University in Brno. It also partly teaches specialised IT courses for economic study programmes. Courses are taught in both Czech and English. Apart from teaching, he focuses on research and development in the areas of mobile applications, web technologies and Industry 4.0. It emphasizes the use of methods from the field of artificial intelligence, analysis of large-scale data and innovative methods of communication with the user.

What will be your job role?

  • teaching courses for students in informatics study programs, primarily in the Open Informatics program (Bachelor’s and Master’s level) – mainly courses focused on software design and implementation, such as Foundations of Object-Oriented Design (basics of OOP, design patterns, development of large projects), Python Programming Language, etc.
  • preparing and assisting with the evaluation of projects and examination materials
  • mentoring and supervising students
  • supervising students‘ final theses (particularly Bachelor’s theses) and managing student projects
  • engaging in research and development projects in the employee’s profile areas
  • participating in scientific and research activities within the department

What are our requirements?

  • a Master´s degree in the field of IT or related
  • active knowledge of Czech language at the level C1
  • active knowledge of English language at the level B2
  • ability to lead lectures, exercises at the university level, and supervise student projects in both languages
  • ability to professionally supervise students‘ final theses focused on software design and implementation
  • research/teaching/practical knowledge in the area of software design and development – demonstrable practice of at least one year (teaching, practical experience, etc.)

What else do we appreciate?

  • knowledge of UML and the ability to model using this language
  • experience in application development with agile methodologies
  • knowledge of other object-oriented programming languages
  • experience with publishing and conference activities (indexed publications in Scopus, Web of Science, conferences)

Job status: 0,5 (20 hours per week)

Expected start: September 2024

Employment contract: fixed term for two years with the possibility of extension
