It aims to analyze undesirable environmental changes and find ways to address them. The study focuses on analyzing the state of the environment, identifying pollution sources, and understanding transport processes. A key task is finding indicators that help early detection of changes in environmental systems. Graduates gain skills for independent and team work, problem-solving in basic and applied science, and have laboratory and fieldwork experience. They are prepared for a scientific career or expert roles in environmental protection.

Offer of dissertation topics:
- Aerosol interaction with air humidity
- Atmospheric aerosol composition within and above the mixing layer
- Bioaerosols and freezing clouds
- Changes in aerosols during the transition over the Czech basin
- Feeding ecology and huntig behavior of great cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) in various habitat complexity
- Molecular composition of atmospheric aerosols
- Sublethal pesticide risks to solitary bees from egg laying to the emergence of the new generation
- Traffic-related aerosols
Profile of the graduate
The absolvent has gained deep theoretical and practical abilities to solve environmental problems related to various aspects and fields of the environment. The absolvent is capable to find appropriate environmental and analytical approaches for relevant problems, to optimize research methods, to process and to interpret the obtained results, and based on the results he/she is able suggest and describe the respective remedy solutions.
Application submission
The application is submitted electronically through the Charles University study information system. The completed application must be submitted electronically in the study information system no later than on 30. 4. 2025 for study programmes starting in the winter semester (October) and no later than on 15. 12. 2025 for study programmes starting in the summer semester (April).
The admission fee is 100 EUR and it is paid for each submitted application.
Entrance exam
The regular date of entrance exam for all doctoral programmes starting in the winter semester (October) is 9. – 20. 6. 2025, an alternative date is 23. – 27. 6. 2025.
The regular date of entrance exam for all doctoral programmes starting in the summer semester (April) is 4. – 5. 2. 2026, an alternative date is 11. – 12. 2. 2026.
The request for an alternative day is submitted and approved via the electronic information system.
The form of the entrance exam is an oral interview, which mainly concerns the issues of the planned dissertation and the candidate’s knowledge within the field of expertise of the given study programme.
