Přehled

Doctoral studies are organized by the Department of Physical and Macromolecular Chemistry in collaboration with the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. The program covers macromolecular chemistry, including biopolymer chemistry and physical chemistry of polymers. Students can focus on experimental issues such as polymer synthesis, association processes, polymer degradation, and semiconductor polymer structures, or theoretical studies and simulations. The program reflects modern trends and job market needs.

Profile of the graduate

A PhD. graduate has acquired advanced theoretical knowledge, practical skills and experience in the field of Macromolecular Chemistry. A graduate manages very well the modern methods of preparation of polymer materials, methods of characterization and study, has interdisciplinary knowledge in advanced applications of polymer materials and can use this knowledge and experience creatively. A graduate can formulate, plan and perform scientific tasks and critically evaluate and present their results, and has practical experience with organizing and funding research and teaching of students. The graduate is qualified for work in academic, scientific and scientific-educational institutions as well as research and development centres of companies engaged in the development and production of technologically advanced materials.

Application submission

The application is submitted electronically through the Charles University study information system.  The completed application must be submitted electronically in the study information system no later than on 30. 4. 2025 for study programmes starting in the winter semester (October) and no later than on 15. 12. 2025 for study programmes starting in the summer semester (April).

The admission fee is 100 EUR and it is paid for each submitted application.

Entrance exam

The regular date of entrance exam for all doctoral programmes starting in the winter semester (October) is 9. – 20. 6. 2025, an alternative date is 23. – 27. 6. 2025.

The regular date of entrance exam for all doctoral programmes starting in the summer semester (April) is 4. – 5. 2. 2026, an alternative date is 11. – 12. 2. 2026.

The request for an alternative day is submitted and approved via the electronic information system.

The form of the entrance exam is an oral interview, which mainly concerns the issues of the planned dissertation and the candidate’s knowledge within the field of expertise of the given study programme.
