Přehled
Description of the position:
The Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IPP Prague), currently designing and building a high performance new tokamak called COMPASS-U, is looking for a scientist having expertise in or strong will to work with infrared thermography imaging in fusion devices. The work will be two-fold: (i) participate in worldwide fusion-relevant research using skills in infrared thermography and (ii) design, install and operate, infrared thermography imaging systems for diagnosing the COMPASS-U tokamak. Candidates with previous background in infrared thermography are preferred but experience with other (spectroscopy) diagnostics are also welcomed.
Work content:
- Responsible for the design, assembly and operation of infrared thermography imaging for the COMPASS-U (support from optical and mechanical engineers and one IR expert)
- Conduct scientific research using infrared thermography imaging on currently operating devices (e.g. short time stay on other European facilities) and at COMPASS-U once operational
- Take an active role in the research of the SOL and divertor physics group
Requirements and skills:
- Ph.D. level in physics or nuclear or physical engineering
- Previous experience with infrared thermography imaging is a plus
- Hands-on experience in plasma/fusion diagnostics
- Motivation for teamwork and social skills
- Long term stay (>3 years)
- Proficient English
- Programming in Python (preferred), Matlab or IDL
We offer:
- Work within a young team on a unique scientific project (COMPASS-U)
- Possibility to develop full expertise (from design to usage) in a very crucial diagnostic used in fusion research
- Full-time job
- Flexible working hours
- 5-week holidays and 6 sick-days
