The position in Dr. Ivan Kolar’s group at the Institute of Theoretical Physics is funded by the Charles University grant PRIMUS/23/SCI/005, titled „Spacetimes and Fields in Higher-Derivative Theories.“ The anticipated start date is March 1, 2025, with an expected contract duration of two years (a later start date can be arranged).
Application Instructions
The application with required attachments should be sent by e-mail to positions@matfyz.cuni.cz by the deadline. The subject of this e-mail should contain the job offer code.
If any recommendation letters are required, the applicant is responsible to ensure that they are sent to the same e-mail address positions@matfyz.cuni.cz. The subjects of these e-mails should also contain the job offer code.

The interview may be conducted by means of information and communication technology if justified, at the request of the candidate. The Committee may invite selected candidates to give a lecture to the academic community of the Faculty.
Qualifications
- Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, mathematical physics, or a closely related field, with a solid background in general relativity and modified theories of gravity. Ideal candidates will bring expertise in higher-derivative gravity, exact solutions, and their physical and geometrical interpretation. Familiarity with mathematical techniques in relativity, such as spacetime symmetries and algebraic classification, is highly valued, along with strong analytical skills. Experience with computational tools like xAct/Mathematica, commonly used in theoretical physics, is advantageous but not mandatory.
Expertise
- General relativity and modified theories of gravity (esp. higher-derivative gravity), exact solutions and their interpretations (e.g., regular black holes), mathematical relativity (spacetime symmetries, algebraic classification, etc.)
Required Documents
- structured CV
- education credentials, proof of academic degrees and ranks
- list of scientific and publication activity
