Overview

A postdoctoral position in Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating System is available at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (IPP). Applicants are invited to work with the ECRH team for a 3-year full-time Postdoctoral Research position (with a possibility of renewal).

IPP constructs the new high toroidal magnetic field tokamak COMPASS-Upgrade. As a key member of our team, you will play a major role in designing a state of the art, 1 MW class multifrequency gyrotron microwave system for Electron Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ECRH) to be utilized for plasma heating. This unique opportunity allows you to engage in the design and procurement phases of a high power ECRH system. If you are ready to take on a challenging role and significantly impact the operation of COMPASS Upgrade tokamak, you are kindly invited to join our team!

The candidate will work closely with the team and other experts on some of these topics. The topics have wide overlaps so we will align the tasks with the skills and interests of the candidate.

  • Participation in the development of a multifrequency ECRH system. This includes Gyrotrons, High Voltage Power Supplies, Launchers, Transmission Lines, Dummy Load, and Control and Protection Systems
  • Solving problems related to the commissioning and operation of multifrequency 1 MW class gyrotron.
  • Support and preparation of tools and models for plasma research using the ECRH system.

Application materials:

  • Professional CV
  • 1-page cover letter describing your previous research and experience, future research goals and career plans, and interest in the ECRH systems.
  • Letters of recommendation will be beneficial but it is not necessary.

We Offer:

  • An opportunity to be part of a significant scientific project during a dynamic phase of construction and development.
  • Full-time employment for 1 year with prolongation for 2 years extra. In total 3 years contract with the possibility of renewal.
  • Generous vacation policy: five weeks per year and an extra 6 days of sick leave.
  • Adjustable working hours and partial remote work arrangements to accommodate work-life balance.
